HENDERSONVILLE, Tennessee—The Canadian hotel industry reported mixed results in the three key performance metrics for the week of 9-15 January 2011, according to data from STR.

In year-over-year measurements, the Canadian hotel industry’s occupancy ended the week with a 0.8-percent increase to 49.4 percent. Average daily rate decreased 1.0 percent to CAD$117.62. Revenue per available room ended the week virtually flat with a 0.1-percent decrease to CAD$58.12.

Among the provinces, Prince Edward Island reported the largest occupancy increase, rising 17.5 percent to 38.9 percent, followed by Ontario (+6.5 percent to 52.4 percent) and New Brunswick (+5.8 percent to 47.3 percent). British Columbia fell 13.7 percent in occupancy to 41.7 percent, reporting the largest decrease in that metric.

Manitoba (+4.5 percent to CAD$110.15) and Saskatchewan (+4.4 percent to CAD$126.51) experienced the largest ADR increases for the week. British Columbia fell 6.4 percent in ADR to CAD$117.14, reporting the largest decrease in that metric.

Five provinces experienced RevPAR increases of more than 5 percent: Prince Edward Island (+19.2 percent to CAD$30.17); Saskatchewan (+9.4 percent to CAD$80.51); New Brunswick (+8.0 percent to CAD$51.01); Ontario (+6.1 percent to CAD$60.10); and Manitoba (+5.4 percent to CAD$61.47). British Columbia posted the largest RevPAR decrease, falling 19.1 percent to CAD$48.89.
