LONDON—The Central/South America hotel development pipeline comprises 197 hotels totalling 28,897 rooms, according to the December 2011 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report.
Among the markets in the region, Panama City, Panama, reported the largest expected growth (59.6 percent) if all 5,952 rooms in the country’s total active pipeline open. Other markets to report significant growth include: San Jose, Costa Rica (+13.0 percent with 770 rooms); Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (+11.6 percent with 2,726 rooms); Lima, Peru (+7.1 percent with 381 rooms); and Santiago, Chile (+4.9 percent with 398 rooms).
