REPORT FROM THE U.S.—Hilton Worldwide and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide might be getting close to a settlement in the corporate espionage lawsuit in which the two companies are entwined.

Charles A. Gilman, an attorney for Starwood, said in a 16 November court memo that “the parties have been exploring the possibility of settlement.” A case management conference scheduled for 18 November has been pushed back to 17 December.

In its suit, Starwood alleges that two of its former executive, Ross Klein and Amar Lalvani, took proprietary information with them to their new jobs at Hilton, then used the information to launch a new luxury brand, Denizen.

A Hilton spokeswoman declined comment on the case, and a Starwood spokeswoman did not return a call for comment late Monday afternoon.

Will likely be a hefty price tag for Hilton to pay for copying someone else's marketing ideas rather than generate their own.

One has to wonder what drove these otherwise admired and respected people to behave out of character.
