STR Global reports Central and South America hotel pipeline for September

LONDON—The Central/South America hotel development pipeline includes 141 projects with 21,751 rooms, according to the September 2009 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report released this week.

Among the key markets, Panama City, Panama, reported the largest number of rooms in the total active pipeline for the month with 3,694 rooms. The market also reported the largest amount of rooms in the In Construction phase with 1,963 rooms. Sao Paulo, Brazil, followed with 1,516 rooms in the total active pipeline and 854 rooms in the In Construction phase. Buenos Aires, Argentina, ended the month with 931 rooms in the total active pipeline and 822 rooms in construction.

Among the Chain Scales, the Economy, Upscale, and Upper Upscale segments accounted for the majority of rooms in the total active pipeline. The Economy segment reported the largest portion of rooms in the total active pipeline with 25.2 percent (5,481 rooms). The Upscale segment accounted for 22.8 percent of the total active pipeline with 4,958 rooms. The Upper Upscale segment made up 21.0 percent of the total active pipeline with 4,559 rooms.
