STR Global reports Europe hotel pipeline for September 2009

LONDON—The Europe hotel development pipeline includes 547 hotels comprising 89,205 rooms, according to the September 2009 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report released this week.

Among the key markets, Berlin, Germany, reported the largest amount of rooms in the total active pipeline with 4,210 rooms. London, England (3,768 rooms), and Munich, Germany (2,082 rooms), also reported a large amount of rooms in the total active pipeline. Two markets ended the month with more than 1,000 rooms in the In Construction phase: London (3,172) and Berlin (1,267).

Among the Chain Scale segments, the Upscale segment accounted for the largest portion of rooms in the total active pipeline with 24.2 percent (21,564 rooms), followed by the Economy segment (23.1 percent and 20,629 rooms) and the Upper Upscale segment (13.6 percent and 12,092 rooms). The Midscale without Food and Beverage segment reported the smallest portion of rooms in the total active pipeline with 7.1 percent (6,299 rooms).
