STR: Canada hotel results for week ending 24 July

HENDERSONVILLE, Tennessee—The Canadian hotel industry reported positive results in the three key performance measurements during the week of 18-24 July 2010, according to data released by STR.

In year-over-year measurements, the Canadian hotel industry’s occupancy increased 3.4 percent to 72.7 percent. Average daily rate ended the week up 1.3 percent to CAD$128.87. Revenue per available room for the week rose 4.8 percent to CAD$93.73.

Newfoundland achieved the largest increases in all three key performance metrics: Occupancy rose 20.7 percent to 95.1 percent, ADR was up 15.6 percent to CAD$144.40, and RevPAR soared 39.6 percent to CAD$137.30.

Manitoba was the only other province to report a double-digit occupancy increase, rising 17.6 percent to 81.6 percent. Prince Edward Island posted the largest occupancy decrease, falling 7.0 percent to 71.4 percent, followed by Saskatchewan with a 6.3-percent decrease to 73.1 percent.

Manitoba followed Newfoundland with the second highest ADR increase, rising 10.9 percent to CAD$115.96. Alberta (-4.6 percent to CAD$135.39) and Nova Scotia (-4.0 percent to CAD$120.96) posted the largest ADR decreases.

Excluding Newfoundland, Manitoba reported the only RevPAR increase of more than 20 percent, jumping 30.3 percent to CAD$94.58. Saskatchewan led the RevPAR decreases, falling 8.2 percent to CAD$84.35, followed by Prince Edward Island with a 6.2-percent decrease to CAD$92.64.
