STR: Caribbean/Mexico pipeline August 2010

HENDERSONVILLE, Tennessee—The Caribbean/Mexico hotel development pipeline comprises 132 hotels totaling 16,870 rooms, according to the August 2010 STR/TWR/Dodge Construction Pipeline Report released this week.

Among the key countries in the region, Mexico reported the largest number of rooms in the total active pipeline (10,545 rooms) and in the In Construction phase (4,737 rooms). The Dominican Republic (1,674 rooms) and Puerto Rico (1,210 rooms) also reported more than 1,000 rooms in the total active pipeline.

Among the Chain Scale segments, the Midscale without Food and Beverage segment accounted for the largest portion of the total active pipeline with 5,337 rooms, followed by the Upscale segment, which made up 21.0 percent with 3,545 rooms. The economy segment accounted for the smallest portion of the total active pipeline with 3.3 percent and 552 rooms.
