STR: Canada results for week ending 4 December

HENDERSONVILLE, Tennessee—The Canadian hotel industry reported positive results in the three key performance metrics for the week of 28 November-4 December 2010, according to data from STR.

In year-over-year measurements, the Canadian hotel industry’s occupancy was up 5.0 percent to 58.5 percent. Average daily rate increased 0.5 percent to CAD$120.75. Revenue per available room increased 5.6 percent to CAD$70.69.

Among the provinces, Quebec reported the largest occupancy increase, rising 11.8 percent to 59.6 percent, followed by Alberta with a 7.0-percent increase to 63.0 percent. Two provinces posted occupancy decreases: Prince Edward Island (-6.0 percent to 31.6 percent) and Nova Scotia (-2.4 percent to 48.1 percent).

Quebec in ADR rose 4.0 percent to CAD$124.42, for the largest increase in that metric, followed Manitoba (+3.4 percent to CAD$110.52) and Saskatchewan (+3.4 percent to CAD$122.25). Prince Edward Island reported the largest ADR decrease, falling 5.2 percent to CAD$72.68.

Quebec’s RevPAR increased 16.4 percent to CAD$74.21, reporting the only double-digit increase in that metric, followed by Saskatchewan with a 5.0-percent increase to CAD$87.48. Two provinces posted RevPAR decreases: Prince Edward Island (-10.8 percent to CAD$22.97) and Nova Scotia (-1.0 percent to CAD$51.27).
