STR: US weekly results for week ending Feb. 12

HENDERSONVILLE, Tennessee—The U.S. hotel industry reported single-digit increases in all three key performance metrics during the week of 6-12 February 2011, according to data from STR.

In year-over-year comparisons, occupancy increased 1.7 percent to 54.7 percent, average daily rate was up 0.7 percent to US$97.88, and revenue per available room finished the week up 2.4 percent to US$53.51.

Among the Top 25 Markets, Washington, D.C., which battled a blizzard on 6 February 2010, achieved the largest increases in all three key performance metrics for the week. The market’s occupancy rose 11.1 percent to 58.7 percent, ADR increased 23.2 percent to US$143.58, and RevPAR jumped 36.9 percent to US$84.29.

Detroit, Michigan, reported the only other double-digit occupancy increase, rising 10.0 percent to 55.4 percent.

Miami-Hialeah, Florida, the host of Super Bowl XLIV on 7 February 2010, experienced the largest decreases in all three key performance metrics. Occupancy fell 6.0 percent to 77.2 percent, ADR was down 17.4 percent to US$175.32, and RevPAR dropped 22.3 percent to US$135.39.

Two markets, excluding Washington, D.C., reported ADR increases of more than 15 percent: San Francisco/San Mateo, California (+19.1 percent to US$145.99), and Dallas, Texas (+15.9 percent to US$111.20). Dallas hosted Super Bowl XLV on 6 February 2011.

Other than Washington, D.C., three markets experienced RevPAR increases of more than 15 percent: San Francisco/San Mateo (+26.0 percent to US$100.32); Los Angeles-Long Beach, California (+19.0 percent to US$91.73); and Dallas (+17.5 percent to US$68.88)
